I can see their perspective... The artists work to create this music, if people dont pay for it, band doesnt get paid, company doesnt get paid, company folds, band goes to work at Arby's , no more music....
Artists deserve to be paid for their art just like anyone else, in the same manner that someone that creates a game has the right to sell it.
Are they going overboard? Yes, the RIAA 's mistake was not investigating electronic music sales rather than going on a witch hunt, but they have the right to protect their property. There are laws to protect you from someone marching into your home and stealing your TV, same principal.
You should always pay for the things you appreciate, like tipping a waiter. Their livelihood is at stake.
Now what you SHOULD be pissed about is atheletes that make 10million a year, one of the reasons I have to pay 60$ to go see a live GD football game, now that is insane, not paying 10$ for the new Saliva cd...
