Default Perl errors during insall

I installed Perl 5.8 as the thread explains, but when I try to run the "perl -MCPAN -e shell" command I get an error telling me to install Bundle::CPAN.

When I try that it comes back saying that the file CPAN.pm contains no Bundle Definition and to delete it if it is bogus. I delete it but re-running the install Bundle::CPAN keeps giving me the same error. It will not let me load5zones until I can get this error resolved because it tells me that Perl is not enabled. Any help would be great. Or a copy of a working CPAN.pm file IF it is legal to ask for it.

Thanks.
