Getting files from a program(or the whole thing) which you have to pay for, for free, == warez.

Ok I have one small issue with the above, which was also elaborated on in a previous users theoretical post. And it is this... I bought the disks for every single update of EQ barring GoD and the one after that. I bought a subscription to EQ live for several years. Many of you (I assume) have also bought the disks and maybe even a subscription. Since we have all helped pay Sony's EQ programmers salaries, how is trading a file (like say eqmain.dll) warez, in this particular case?
Yeah, I would understand if all of us or even the majority where getting all the EQ files for free (without ever purchasing any of the disks) but this is not the case. Heck, EQ Live "gives" these files to those with the program for "free" anyway (with the expectation that we are paying their subscription fees, of course).
The fact that not every one of us keeps an copy of every patched version of EQ is the real issue here, it seems to me.
Heck, I've only got 40gigs of HD space and that's taken up by lots of other programs and files I use too. Some people have far less. And we can't all afford a new 80gig or higher drive (I wish). So, keeping one becomes the challange. With one EQ Live folder and one EQ pre-patched for eqemu folder, you still have the challenge of keeping on top of things.
Let's say the eqemu copy is set up fine, to say 5.7 dr3. Everything's working fine then over half of your players (for you run a server) patch their only working copy of the game. So now, you have to get 5.7 dr4 working and you don't have all the files you need because Sony has gone and changed their login process (in an overt attempt to lock out unofficial servers just like yours).
Now what do you? If you ask for an old copy of the file you need on the forum, you get flamed for asking for warez, which really isn't, since it was never free in the first place (unless you downloaded all of your EQ files from the net to begin with). You can't download it from Sony because they want you to pay for their servers and won't give it to you. You can't get it off your disks because those files are too old.
So basically, you have to hope a kind soul takes pity on you and emails your or pms you and gives you a copy of the file you are looking for. Even though it's warez...
(Ok, sorry this turned into such a rant. This just touched a nerve for me because by the definition of warez you all gave the EQ files clearly are not by your own definition. If I'd gotten the files for free in the first place, perhaps I'd be able to see things differntly but after putting so much money into Sony's pockets, I just can't see trading such files to be as big of a deal as you all seem to think it is. And if discussing such things is a bannable offense on a forum that runs and builds a semi-legal program, ;-) (that I love btw), I just don't know what to think except perhaps that it is beyond ironic.)
And yes, I've read this:
Quote:
1) No Warez (No Discussion or Providing of Warez). Warez is any file that has been obtained without purchase from the company or a "legit" vendor, or without the sole permission of the owner, or company is considered illegal and is not permitted on these forums. This also includes all EQ files and also means do NOT ask, give out, host, or in some other way promote the giving out of these files. This includes but is not limited to: The EQ Patcher, eqgame.exe, eqmain.dll, spdat.eff, cshome.s3d, cshome_chr.s3d, or ANY file downloaded with the Verant EQ Patcher (aka Everquest.exe) with the exeption of files that can be re-created within 10 seconds by hand (this means eqhost.txt is okay).

I just disagree with the definition "any file that has been obtained without purchase from the company or a "legit" vendor" to include EQ files themselves, since many of us have an EQ Live subscription along with running eqemu.
Ok, I think I've beat this into the ground enough. I'm going off to bed now.
