IRC webpage link

I just wanted to know how to link to an IRC server/chan without it also popping up a browser window. I can link to it fine with irc://server/chan, but it will always pop up that browser window. Not a big deal just something I'd like to figure out to make things more neat and tidy

I know it must be possible since it works fine from the emu's IRC link..

apreciate someone that can tell me how to do this
