Ok I've really tried to work this out myself without bugging people here for help but I'm at a loss.
My issue seems to be this: I can log into the Server Select screen, but when I try to connect, the screen goes black and then goes to the login screen again.
Most likely you are running the wrong version of Everquest. Only Legal copies of Everquest completely unpatched will work. See our list of supported ClientVersions to validate your client should be compatible.
You may want to try other servers to make sure that it isn't a problem on that particular server.
If you live in a dorm or are playing at work, you might be using a proxy that is blocking port 5998, which means you won't be able to connect.
If you are running a P2P or Torrent program, it might be using all of your bandwidth. Try turning them all off.
You may have a firewall that is blocking EQ. Disable all firewalls.
If you are running a Dual Core CPU or Windows Vista, you will probably need to read the following post and apply at least one of the fixes listed in it:
http://www.eqemulator.net/forums/sho...t=25327∞
You may need to adjust your Windows Desktop and/or your Everquest Resolution settings.
Make sure your drivers are up to date for your Video Card.
If you have sound enabled, make sure your sound card is working.
Try resetting your router. If that doesn't help, try connecting your PC directly to your cable/dsl modem and see if that helps.
If you previously had another version of EQ installed and installed SoF over the old install (even if you uninstalled EQ before-hand), you will need to uninstall EQ again and delete the Everquest install folder completely, and then install SoF again from scratch. Otherwise, simply installing SoF to a new/different folder than your current EQ install works just fine.
First off I think there are 2 trees of problems I'm having with different versions of EQ I've tried to run but I really think I've taken a shot at a legitimate install and trying to resolve problems with each.
My machine is an e6750 single core, 8800GTS640 Nvidia, windows vista 64 , 4 gigs ram, multiple hard drives (320gb for the OS and some games, 3tb for emulated games, 750 gig for other game files and another TB drive for movies and music) I run this machine on 1600x1024 resolution normally.
First: I played P1999 up to about level 10 about 6 months after its release and gave it up. So at one point I had eqemulator working. That install used titanium and daemon tools to install it and it worked! Fastforward a year or so later and I think I messed it up trying to run everquest live, but it never worked, though I think I may have messed up some of the files trying to patch to live possibly. I really don't know because it's been so long since I tried to play. So I checked the eqhost file and tried both ports 5998 & 5999. 5999 gets me to the character select screen but when I try to load to the server it boots me out to like I just hit the exe file on my desktop. I went through the above suggestions and this install hasn't worked since I tried to start up on EQtitan yesterday 3/4/12.
I found the eqtitan install and reinstalled it on my 750 gig hd fresh (had to dl the new daemontools lite to do it). I went through the steps of editing the eqhost file and again, tried port 5998 and 5999. 5999 gets me to character select but then I get booted out to login. 5998 (which from what I read is supposed to be correct for titanium) gets me nowhere, can't login at all, it just freezes.
I tried changing my desktop resolution to 1024x768, eqoptions file edited to the same and verified it in eqclient.ini. It didn't make a difference.
I tried different servers with the same result, kicked to login.
I am playing from home so no proxy server. I turned off torrents and my bandwidth (cable) is great.
My vista firewall is off, been off for years.
I have a single core cpu so multicore issues aren't my problem.
I went to Nvidia's site and dl'ed the latest drivers, installed them and rebooted.
Sounds works on this machine just fine for other games I play.
I tried working with the last working directory I used for eqemulator but it failed and I've tried installing to a new folder also, still no dice.
In addition, on the multicore issues link it details some common fixes for vista/7 such as running in compatability mode, none of those worked for me, tried all of them. I tried all of the fixes there too.
I would really like to play so if anyone has any other ideas I would really appreciate it.
Thank you in advance.
