Default Help me understand EQemu

I've read some of the FAQs, but I still don't understand how this all works.

Does the eqemu server code contain all the answers to all the quests, mechanics, etc of all of EQ? If so, would not all unsolved quests be solved by people peering into this source code?

I normally don't ask this sort of thing, I prefer just to play. I am however considering trying to solve an unsolved quest on an eqemu server, and well, knowing the above is important. If the server is code from KNOWN information about quests, then I have no chance - since these quests are unsolved.

Could someone enlighten me as to how this works?

assuming they had an understanding of how the server handles quests, yes. but none of it is information that isn't already readily available through a google search.

if you're referring to custom quests, then the player would have to have access to the quests folder on the server itself to sort out what is going on as none of it is stored locally by the client.

CORRECTION:
the server source itself doesn't actually contain ANY quests or even npc data. the quests are perl scripts (separate download than the source) that are accessed by the server and the data is something entirely different, but that's beyond the scope of your original question.

Bottom line. I did the Chalice of Conquest quest in P1999 as far as I can figure it out. I've updated the P1999 wiki. I've gone as far as anyone I can find on the web, Zam, etc. So to my knowledge no one has gotten farther, even on a current live server.

Given that - I think what you are saying is that there is no chance this could ever be solved on an EQemu server, because they could not emulate it. If it was truely unsolved rather than broken, it could only be solved on live?

Assuming Dru Razbind is indeed the initiator of the quest, the script is empty with the exception of the text and even that is incomplete and certainly not up to the point of what's been found.

That is NOT a complaint mind you, simply a statement. In fact, I'd love to contribute updated scripts using what is known (albeit unconfirmed by me) here (spoiler):

http://everquest.allakhazam.com/db/quest.html?quest=116

Though, I have to run out for a few hours and knowing the expedience of some here, I wouldn't be the least bit surprised if someone else did it while I was afk/running errands.

If not, then I'll do it when I return.

I have done all in the spoiler. I have the resulting reward - but it is surely an intermediate step. The last section speaks of a cleric in lava - I wondered if I should bother since Im on an emu server.

so you've done all there is to the quest as it is listed and you have the partisan? what leads you to believe there is more to it?

Yes. I have the partisan.

Check the end of the spoiler, and the last text from the NPC. It speaks about getting the item recharged - and perhaps some cleric in antonica. Also take a look at the partisan. Mine has no listed charges or effect, but some web pics of the item show it with "skin like stone" charges. It's also clearly not a finished product - no one would use it that could do the quest. It was 20+ hours for me to get the candle base and get the exiled legionarre to spawn.

But nowhere on the web is any idea how/who/what.

yes, i read that much, but that doesn't mean it's not the end of the quest. it could be that nothing else was ever put in the game, or it might have simply been a red herring. if there is no information available regarding more steps anywhere online, you'd have to verify there was more to it on live and report your findings for it to be mirrored on the emulator. the only thing i can find in relation to paladins in lavastorm is the ghoulbane.

the Ala info is obviously from LIVE
You did the quest on P99 - they keeping to data that was available back THEN - which means some things could be incomplete or different on purpose.

For example on P99 final stage of Gnollslayer quest doesn't exist, cause it wasn't completed on LIVE until Luclin era

it's got the effect (with 5 charges) in the latest database. i'm not sure of p1999's database, obviously.

that's also a valid point. the effect may have been added at a later date.

The quest text does indicate the item should have charges. Older quest text indicates it should have charges: (http://www.tokyo2001.com/game/eq/quest/bbm/bbm01.html). Perhaps they forgot the charges until much later.

As indicated here in 2009, user suggests original didn't have an effect:

this was by far, the most enjoyable quest i've even done, beats soulfire, ghoulbane and 1.0.....you get to redeem a lost paladin, and if you do it at a lower level, makes a good paladin explore old world zones that are too often ignored...didnt have skin like rock when i first quested, and it was before the days of a damage bonus, but the feeling of success when you finish this quest is beyond describable

I'm not sure how the quest should progress past the final stage.

I read the whole spoiler while I had my morning coffee and I got curious too.

Code:
SELECT npc_types.id, npc_types.`name`
FROM `spawn2`
INNER JOIN spawnentry ON spawn2.spawngroupID = spawnentry.spawngroupID AND spawn2.zone = "lavastorm"
INNER JOIN npc_types ON npc_types.id = spawnentry.npcID AND npc_types.class = 2;
I ran this SQL on PEQ to get a list of cleric NPC's that spawn in lavastorm.

Code:
a_Solusek_goblin_priest
a_Solusek_goblin_priest
a_cinder_goblin_cleric
a_Solusek_goblin_priest
#Drexel
a_shadowed_man
a_shadowed_man
This is the list I came up with. The only interesting NPC is Dexel and he seems to have been added much later. So I am not sure ><
