What does the patcher do?

Is it only used for people who are hosting a server or is it used for people who are trying to connect?

will it fix my 1017 error?

There are MANY posts about those exact questions, but I'll answer it again...

Patcher - updates EQClient to work with EQEMU

Fixes 1017.

For anyone who wants to play eqemu at all.
