I had an acoustic modem once, pick up your phone reciever, dial in the number and slap the receiver down in a big foam case connected to your computer... measured speed in hundreds of BYTES per second. Ah the good ol' days.

You guys are newbs... LOL.. I remember the acoustic modems, though I never had one.. MY first modem was a 300 BAUD plugin modem for a C64. It would take all day to transfer a 640K disk. I remember getting excited over my upgrade to a 1200K thinking I was on easy street at that point.

Yea my first computer was a TRS-80 about the time they first came out. When we got it it used a standard AUDIO tape recorder to store data and programs! We were bad ass when we got a 160K 5 1/4 floppy drive I think we had a 300 baud modem, but I never used it then. I don't remember it that was an acustic modem or not...
I had been into BBS's a lot since the 1200 buad modem days, but that was on PC's by then. It took something like 30 min to get a 640x480 image downloaded! Anyone want to guess the content of that picture?

Ahh the good ole days....

trs-80 model 3 rocked ass. Galaxy invasion and Robot attack
were my favorite games. You had to connect a little voice box
to get sound out of it. Graphx were like huge black and white
boxes. Dot Matrix printer was like 3 gran and loud as hell.

Galixy Invasion!!! Man I played the hell out of that. I think I had 1 game that lasted 45 min for some ungodly high score.

Oh the memories....
