Default HOWTO: Create Backpatchers

Ok so I'm doing this out of kindness for the newbies.

Anyways, people are always complaining about:

Quote:
OMGMGOMGOGMOGOMOGMGOMOmgmgoMgomgMGOGM I PATCHED WHAT DO I DooOO???!?!?!?!??
And frankly it clutters the boards and is just f***ing annoying to read.

So here's a guide to a way to create a backpatcher for yourself to allow you to still play EQEmu in the event of patching.

NOTE::THIS DOES NOT CONTAIN ANY LINKS TO ANY FILES OF ANY KIND, THIS GUIDE REQUIRES THAT YOU HAVE A FULL RETAIL VERSION OF EVERQUEST INSTALLED ON YOUR COMPUTER. DISTRIBUTION OF ANY FILES CREATED WITH THIS GUIDE IS ILLEGAL AND IS PUNISHABLE BY LAW.

Now on to the guide...

1) This can ONLY be done BEFORE you patch everquest on the day of a patch.

2) Go into your Everquest folder.

3) Right click anywhere there isn't a file in the folder, and select SORT BY -> TYPE.

4) Now, Create a new .ZIP/.RAR file (Whichever you prefer). It is not necessary to create a compressed file, it's just easier to keep track of.

5) Add the RENDER EFFECTS folder, the UIFILES folder, ALL .DLL files, and all .EXE files in the Everquest main folder. I'll usually add a pre-edited eqhost.txt in there too so there's only one step.

6) You're done. This is your back patcher. Whatever form you have it in (Compressed folder, separate folder, etc...) All you have to do is copy the files from the folder/extract the files to your everquest directory.

Final words:

This DOES NOT WORK 100% OF THE TIME. I have had experiences with occasional patchers that I have made that only work on one of my computers, and I have had experiences when they have not worked at all. I would say that this works roughly 90% of the time.

It's worth the few minutes it takes, and it can save you a lot of grief.

Finally, I repeat again:

THE DISTRIBUTION OF ANY FILES YOU CREATE WITH THIS GUIDE IS CONSIDERED WAREZ, YOU CAN BE BANNED FROM THESE FORUMS, IN ADDTTION, WAREZ ARE AGAINST THE LAW AND YOU CAN BE SENT TO JAIL FOR DISTRIBUTING / OWNING WAREZ.

Bottom line, dont violate copyright laws with these guys, use them for your OWN use ONLY...I'm trusting you.

For those 2 questions I submit this nicely illustrated guide:

Or you can create a seperate EQ folder for EQEMu like you're supposed to.

C++ is wonderful.

Some people play on different servers, and need files for each one. So not everyone can just "have one folder for EQEmu." I have to patch each time I go back and forth between different servers.

Then don't make just one. Make two. Make three. Make four if you have to.

It all boils down to: don't lose those old files. Since there's no guarantee that Sony will have them available for you again.

I have one folder for each version I play, and then an "experimental" folder for the patches and anyother garbage I may try.....so if it breaks no big deal.

Oh also I have a current working folder of EQ that I DO NOT play. It is a current update to what works with the highest EQEmu version. So that for any reason if any of my folders gets corrupt I copy over....

Granted this needs a big hard drive, but, if you want the best and most stable of both or many worlds you need organization and space for it..

My hard drive space dedicated to EQ is 40 gig, of that I am up to just over half that used.
