Default Server with Router?

I'm sorta new to all of this but I have 2 computers hooked up to a 4-port Linksys router and the only way I can host a server is by unhooking the router and connecting the cable modem directly to the computer. Is there any way I can get around this and keep the router on while I play? Like someway to set up an IP addess or something?

Thanks,
Majickal

Look for something like port fowarding or virtual servers in the router setup. You need to make any trafic on ports 9000, 7995-7999 go to your servers lan IP. Search for other posts on the same topic here on the boards.
