Default Progression, or Original EQ servers?

I haven't installed or got the Emu client up yet, nor have I used it previously. I was curious to know however if there were any servers up that ran just original EQ, or maybe with the Kunark expansion. Either that, or something similar to a progression server where it starts at the original 3 continents, and things are then added as things are completed. Anyways, any help would be much appreciated. I've been itching for some old school Everquest myself ;P

Yes (sorta). The ones most like original EQ are the ones running off of Angelox's Classic Database. It features a more old feel like the disableing of most porting features and most "newer" zones. I belive it goes up to SoL though. Just about all of them are past kunark, but you can turn off certain expansions via the database which I think will stop people from entering those zones. Not sure but I think so.

I have actually never gotten the "expansion" variable to do squat. I set it to 0, or 1, and I look like an old classic toon - but I can still port to wherever I want. It is a most undocumented feature.

But a clever way to emulate progression-by-deed is to implement a "flags" system on expansion zones. Do _this_ quest, get _this_ flag, zone to Kunark. Tada.

Show of hands... how many just love flagging?

I have never played with the expansion feature, but I know it was there and I just though it might work. Never messed with flags though, sounds like a option. One could also jump in and change some code in the emu to block said zones from being accessed possibly.

Right now, because of the Titanium client we use, it would be almost impossible to duplicate the "good old" Everquest client. The best we can do, is work with what we have, and try and bring back the old feeling.

I don't think it would be too impossible, Angelox. Like I said, you could just lock the Luclin+ zones by flag or level, and maybe the hardest part would be to identify the older mobs and loots and take out the newer stuff.

PEQ does have a Kunark and Velious database, which I assume doesn't have Luclin or greater mobs and items. It's something to consider. Classic Trilogy EQ... ~tear~

Current EQ client has things like ships broken, and The GUI will always have the AA's and all the other windows. extra things that were added will always be there and an eyesore even if disabled.
The Ideal way to go would be to use an older client, like the original pre-Kunark client. but this can't be done because very few players have one. The client we have can't be altered as it belongs to SOE.
A lot of quests and things that exist now - didn't exist in the original Everquest. The original Evequest was *much*, much harder than what we have now. not to mention, there is little or no interest in this "old style" game. I started on something like a classic server and,in reality, no one was interested. A few people played, but quit. They told me because the game was "too hard". I was constantly asked for things like the #zone command, got many "exp was too slow" complaints (should be at least 3x), items don't drop enough and so forth. Now this is not because there is no one to play this type of game, but because we have cultured a different kind of player in EqEmu. It doesn't make sense to go play on a server where you have to play like it's supposed to be played, when all the other servers play under anarchistic policies, which include privileges that are unheard of in a true game of Everquest. I'm not against this, upset over it, and don't want to start a fight either . In fact I too enjoy running around #zoning everywhere, #summoning anything I want, and #killing for sport.
But, you can't expect to get far with a server of this sort (classic server), when you're up against what we have now.
I still look foward to Windcatcher finishing up his client one day, which would give us all a client we can play around with and customize to fit our needs.
