Other people cannot connect to my server.
I am able to log in fine. I have forwarded ports 9000 and 7000-7100.
My friend constantly gets error:1017, and is unable to login to my server.
Any ideas what my problem could be?

Did you forward them to the correct local address? Note: That address will change if you didn't assign the server a static IP.

I believe so, I think i did a while back on this computer, but I am not positive. Is there anyway to confirm?
Do I have to make it a static ip to function?

You don't have to set it to static, but occasionally DHCP might give you a new IP address if you have a few things on your LAN and shut them all down and your router at the same time and restart them in a different order.
Open a command prompt (start>program files>accessories>command prompts) and type "ipconfig" and make sure it matches what IP you are forwarding the ports to in your router. Also, if this has never worked for you in the past, you might want to make sure you are setting port RANGE forwarding and not just port forwarding. If you are setting port forwarding, it is actually sending anything that is destined for port 7000 to port 7100 instead, which won't work at all.

Yes, ip matches, and it is port range forwarding.

Make sure you don't have a firewall running.

Live in a dorm? Apartment complex with shared internet? Some off the wall ISP that dont allow hosting?
Last is rare but we have seen a couple cases of it over the years.

Nope, do live in an apartment, but we have our own internet. Cox is our isp, pretty sure they would allow hosting.
There is one other computer plugged in the router, could that be an issue?
Thanks for the help, this is frustrating being so close.

Maybe your friend is having a separate issue of his own. Is he able to get to the server list and connect to other servers?

You can try to connect to Ascent to confirm if you'd like. I'm pretty much out of ideas.

Post your config file please.
Also, you could bypass your router and plug directly into the internet, if it still doesn't work at least we know it's not a router problem.

Fixed it. I told router to open all ports and it worked. Is this a bad idea long term?
