Default Cannot connect to server?

Hey all I'm brand new around here so take it easy on me. I installed EQ Titanium and did everything the play guide told me to do, but when I try to connect it says that it can't connect to the server and then gives me a bunch of EQ Sony links for help. I'm completely lost for things to do and any suggestions/help would be great.

It should be working now. The Login Server (and this website) were down for a few hours today. When one is down, the other is as well and you can't login to play when they are. Let us know if you are still having the problem.

Thanks for the super fast reply.

I just tried it again after I saw your post and I got the same message. I type in my info, then it gives me standard Logging in... please wait box, then another box pops up and says "Connection to the server could not be reached" and it tells me to check my internet connection. Then it says "If problem persists, check the network status... etc etc" and those links lead me right to the station website. Completely confused now.

Are you absolutely sure you are using a retail version of EQ Titanium that you bought? If you are using an illegal copy, or some other version of EQ like the Trilogy, it won't work.

Also, make sure you aren't running any P2P or Torrent programs in the background, as they will likely eat up most of your bandwidth and cause connection issues.

These are the areas that are tough to support. The instalation instructions work real well, but they need to be followed to the letter. Any missing or altered step can cause what you're describing and it's tough to identify with as little information as you're providing.

Some things to check.

1. Titanium Retail Instalation that has never connected to SOE?
2. Make absolutely sure you are using eqgame.exe and not everquest.exe and you have the patchme statement where it needs to be. If you run everquest.exe its hard coded to connect to SOE and fix issues (patch)
3. Go through the setup again for good messure... and respond back if you end up fixing it, including what the cause was. I hate when people fix an issue and then never reply to help others understand what happened.

Good luck!

Illegal copies of Titanium are not supported on these forums. Not only are they Illegal and against the rules of the emulator, they are also a real headache and major cause to many issues. People shouldn't have to waste time to help someone troubleshoot an issue that is actually being caused by their illegal copy.

Get a legal copy and uninstall EQ and then delete your EQ directory and reinstall it again. If you connected to the SoE patcher at all, the install needs to be redone from scratch.

If it worked with Minilogin, then it will work with the Public login, as long as you didn't run the patcher (Everquest.exe).
Check your eqhost.txt, make sure it points to the right login server and its port.
minilogin port is 5999 and loginserver is 5998, so if you have something like 'eqemulator.net:5999', that's wrong, you need to change it to 5998.
Other than that, your firewall could be blocking you, turn it off for a while and see.
And if that's not it either, then you must have ran the patcher because you said it worked before with Minilogin.

I figured if the client works with minilogin, then it's supposed to work with public server, yet it fails. Not that I'm so eager to play on the public server (i plan to stick with my minilogin on my LAN), but just wanted to find out why something that's supposed to work actually doesn't work...

If the one you borrowed from a friend is the actual retail version and not some illegal download, then that should work just fine. I don't know what the legal issues might be with that though. The emulator is very sensitive about keeping everything on these forums perfectly legal to keep SoE from having any legal stand-point to shut down the project. So, while I do agree that the copy you have should work, I don't know if there are any issues with talking about getting the copy the way you did. It isn't quite as blatantly illegal as downloading the game, but it is probably still borderline.

Anyway, if you made the correct changes needed in your eqhost.txt file to connect to the public servers (port 5998 as AX already stated), then you should be able to connect.

Now the interesing part: trying to see what's going on on the network with tcpdump
- telnetting to eqemulator.net 5998 shows tcp packets going to 39-21.251.64.serverpronto.com and back to my host, so apparently the server is there and responding
- trying to connect with eq client shows udp packets going to 39-21.251.64.serverpronto.com but there's nothing coming back

I've no clue where the problem lurks so far

Did you look at your eqhost.txt file yet? "39-21.251.64.serverpronto.com" doesn't look right at all... do you get a responce from that address no matter what you ping?

Ya, lol, that probably isn't good. It sounds like you are probably behind a proxy. Which is normally the case if you are playing somewhere other than your house (like a college dorm, your work, or airport or something). If you aren't playing from your own home network, and there is a proxy where you are playing, then they are probably blocking one of the ports required for EQ. Your only option would be to speak with the network admin and ask that they open up port 5998 and maybe even 7000-7100 and 9000. Though, I think 5998 should be enough.
