Client works under 2000, doesn't work under XP
I am running the Dec 5 patch of client files and have found that I can log onto my .4.4 server and play on my dual boot system when running 2000 Pro but not when running XP Pro.
What happens is, after server selection, the screen goes black then crash to desktop, no load screen or music.
- It's not the uifiles since those don't load till the second load screen and as I said, it is working under 2000.
- It's not 1017 or any other error message since it gets beyond that stage in the login process.
- I don't think it's compatability mode since I've tried a variety of settings with the compatability: i.e. ME, 2000, NT service pack 5, 256 color, nothing.
- It's not what method of launch I use i.e. EQW 2.3.2 or eqgame patchme (with and without .exe) from a prompt as I've tried those varieties. The only difference there is EQW creates your typical error message as when a program is 'not responding' and must be shut down.
- It's not the XP firewall, it's not on or straddling the middle, it's off.
So have I missed something because unlucky me didn't guess correctly at which magical keywordz0r to type in the search engine of this forum that would unlock the secrets of the XP grail, or is there another suggestion that I can try out?
I commend the .5.0 project but I will remain with .4.4 until such time as a minilogin is available which works with the latest patched client so that I and others can log in locally/privately and build up the world.
But I don't want to switch to 2000 each time I want to launch and this is keeping others who are XP exclusively from getting in as well.
Sooooo... I've exhausted what I know and have found out for myself, can anyone help with what information I am missing?
