Default Anyone interested in thew old spell graphics

Hello everyone

So for my own interest I loaded up GeorgeS' spell editor and started changing all of the spell effects for my UF client to the old spell graphics. I was using p1999's spells_us.txt as a reference (as trying to use it as a straight copy/paste caused errors in UF).
Two spell lines I am not reverting back to the old graphics because the old graphics made less sense:
Lightning used to look like fire or shock (red stars) and so left it as lightning
Blades line because the new look seems perfect

I am also debating on leaving a few bard songs as the old ones were just crazy on screen cover

I know I could keep mixing and matching based on taste but really wanted the older look as I think the use of primary colors they used to have made for a better look than the darker feel they went for later.

Anyway, I am currently about half done (maybe more) and would be willing to post it to some file site with a link if anyone is interested.

OH yea and I also noticed that something changed in the spellsnew files between Titanium and UF. GeorgeS tool uses Titanium as a reference, so I actually copied my spellsnew.eff and edd from my Titanium directory to my UF directory and it matches the old spells better. The UF one works as it is but a particle effect or two seems a bit different. Like shielding line doesn't have the same effect from the hands as the original effects even though it is obviously supposed to be the shielding particle effect.

-------------------------------------------------------------------

Here is a short video for those that didn't play "back in the day".

-------------------------------------------------------------------
Progress:
Enchanter mez line is using new effects
All bard songs except replenishment and damage use new effects
Lightning and blade spells use new effects

All the rest are classic effects.
Also leaving pure melee alone

DONE:
Enchanter, Wizard, Bard, Paladin, Druid, Ranger, Cleric, Shaman
All spells for all classes up to about 1200

To Do:
Magician, Beastlord, Necromancer, Shadowknight

I agree.

If you do post it let us know, I'll be interested.

Ok so I am finished with the spell file.
Spell Effects:
Enchanter mez line is using new effects
Shaman curse line uses a cool skull effect I found on accident
All bard songs except replenishment and damage use new effects
Lightning and blade spells use new effects

All the rest are classic effects.
Also leaving pure melee alone

Now I am sure it isn't 100% perfect as I havent played every class extensively but it looks correct.

I tested the file using both UF and Titanium clients and everything worked perfectly.
I also want to say that I only changed the particle effects so this file can be used to play on any server that isnt using a custom spells_us.txt file.
If you are using UF and own Titanium I highly recommend copying the spellsnew.eff and spellsnew.edd files from Titanium to UF directory as the Titanium files are closer to classic feel on some spells.

Please backup your spells_us.txt before using just in case you decide you want the new effects again.

Anyway,
Have fun everyone.

Looks very nice. What is the UI that's in the videos?

It is AYA. Found HERE.

I changed it a bit because I run at 1600x900 and I use the /viewport because I like the look of a black border to sharpen the font look.

And thank you GeorgeS. There is no way I could have done this spell file without your tool.

OH BTW

The spell file is available <HERE>

Reposting it because I noticed alot of views but no one seems to have looked at the file. Was unsure if it was apparent it was linked above.

Nice work. I am going to use this and see how it goes. I am a noob to spell files though, and I am wondering what to expect if there are errors or bugs. Is it just that the spell effects will not be visible? Or will there be obvious crashing and burning?

There will be no errors at all. Nothing is changed except what spell effect is shown so I would be totally shocked if there were any errors.

Ok, cool.

Also, I was just wondering why the file is so big, not that it matters, it's just like 3-4 times the size of other spell files I've used.

Again, good work, thank you for sharing.

I was wondering the same thing.

I changed all of the spells up to 9000-10000 (depending on class) and think maybe it is the way the tool writes to the spell file.

It hasn't seemed to affect anything and I have been playing with it for the past week or so.

Anyone know a better file hosting site? I am not sure I like that one. Found it using google, but it is ad heavy.
