				 Allowing Outside Connections to LAN?
 Hey guys,
I attempted to search, as I found most of my previous answers through that system. But, my question is, and if its been answered just hit me with a link and I"ll be happy:

I've setup my server for LAN right now, all my computers in my room can connect to my server so the LAN is working properly. My question is, my friend lives down the street and instead of him coming over 24/7 is there anyway possible for him to connect to my LAN from outside? Or if I'm using the wrong terms at all, is there any guide to set it up so that I can make my server, not really public, but avaible for that kind of connection?

Just to give you some background information, I currently am Behind a Gateway and a Router. (Gateway = Cable Modem/Wireless/Router all in 1). So basically my server is behind 2 routers before someone could get to it. I've been trying to logically think how someone would connect to my server by going through 2 routers, anyone got any advice? I would appreciate it a lot. Thanks

 Moncleared

<-- PS, my current progression = EQ down, Kunark down, Velious up to Sleepers.

Well, the best way for you to get your outside friend(s) to play is to put up a Public server, not a minilogin one (though that is possible as well with more effort). You can set your server to <locked/> mode, and give your friend status > 100 so they can by-pass the lock, but no one else can.
We'll see your server on the list, but cannot connect unless you say so. That's really the easiest way to do it. Then, you won't need to run minilogin.exe either.

Or just give your Minilogin a public IP and your friend can login. |

He probably means your public IP address, if you use a router it'll be the IP addy assigned to that - not your computer. If you have one computer, and the cable/dsl is plugged directly in AND you get your IP via DHCP, yes. ipconfig /all on your computers cmd prompt and the IP Address is what you'd use.
I prefer my suggestion. Far less work. |

 Yes, that's what I meant.
The eqemulator.net login server is probably the best idea, but there are a couple issues that make me not use it.

One is when their site isn't working, noone can login to your game. Granted, it has been pretty reliable in the few years I have been trolling here, but it does go down from time to time.

The second issue is that creating a LS account here is an extra step that is sometimes difficult for people to understand and figure out. (maybe my friends are just dumb).

Also, I don't want to deal with locking or setting access levels to keep the public out while testing.

I just run a server for guildies and friends though, not a public game. I wrote a simple PHP script to tie my forum usernames with the emu account table, so my users just need to login to my site to verify their IP, then they can login to the emu server.

If you are going to host a public server, then the LS is probably a better idea of course.

Anyway, if your computer gets a world routable IP address assigned to it through DHCP, you can probably use it as your minilogin IP. Then have your friend put that IP in his eqhost.txt file. Of course, you need your friend's IP to be in your 'account' table, otherwise he can't login as Minilogin only uses your IP address to log you in.

If your machine gets it's IP through NAT or some other method, it would require some additional software or config changes to your network, so using the LS might be a less painful solution.
