I am not sure about Ocean of Tears offhand, but I know there has been at least 1 remake of Lavastorm that is even included in the Titanium client. It probably depends on which server you are playing on, but I think most servers use the old versions of zones.
As far as I know, the only zone that actually replaced an old zone name on SoF is highholdkeep. Any other zone should be related to the zone ID number and they all have unique zone ID numbers. So, when you zone to Ocean of Tears using one of the normal zone lines, it should send you to the old version. If it doesn't, you might want to look into your SoF install folder and look for a file named something like oot.s3d and oot.eqg, and if you find both of those files, just rename the oot.eqg to oot_old.eqg, and try it again. If you are being sent to the new version of Ocean of Tears (maybe from using #zone command), then you are just going to the wrong version of the zone. The original zone short name is "oot", and the new version is "oceanoftears". So, if you do "#zone oceanoftears", it is going to send you to the wrong one.
I do think that they did a great job on most of the newer revamps of old zones. But, unfortunately, it would take considerable work to populate them all correctly.
As far as lavastorm goes, I am pretty sure your folder should have both lavastorm.s3d (the old version) and lavastorm.eqg (the new version). If so, you can always rename the lavastorm.eqg to lavastorm_old.eqg. Anytime you have a .s3d and a .eqg with both having the same zone name (like arena does for example), you can always just rename the .eqg file to force your client to use the old version. Otherwise, the client will always want to use the newer version if it exists in your folder by the name it is looking for. Just make sure you aren't deleting the files, because you may want to have them back later on for some reason, or in case you run into issues after renaming it.
