A-ha! I solved my LD problem. :)

I had a problem with the last several releases using minilogin. Logging into other peoples EQ servers worked fine. When I set up a server on my own machine, everything would work OK until I got into a zone. At this point, the packet loss percentage would slowly climb until it hit 100% and I would then go LD.

One out of ten (or twenty?) times everything would work.

I figured it was a combination of two problems: Not enough memory (256 MB) and too slow of a processor (450 MHz). Some tests I ran showed EQ trying to grab 450 MB of RAM... Playing with the datarate file didn't help me.

I got the problem to go away by using EQW! After using EQW I haven't gone LD on log-in yet. I'm not exactly sure why it works but it does for me...

P.S. I think I remember Shawn giving this suggestion a while back but at the time I figured EQW would only make the memory problem worse.

Yes, thanks for taking the time to inform others about your solution. However, it is true that the datarate.txt file does have a lot to do with it, having EQW always helps.

I know this is kind of an old thread but I'm somewhat new here.

I've played on other peoples servers with no problems, and tonight I tried setting up a server of my own. After hours of trying to get it to work I found a solution to my problem. I was getting a 1002 error when trying to log in. Eventually I got past that and god to the character select screen. Created my character, and logged in. Imediately went LD and appeared back at the char select. Logged in again and was going good for a few minutes then I went LD again. I'm getting bad lag for some reason. It's not this bad on the other servers just this one it seems.

I'm already using EQW with it, and I'm not sure how to use the datarate.txt file. I don't know what the difference would make between 10.0 and 5.0(originally had 5.0). Could I get some help on this?

Ah ok, nm. I seem to have got it working. I turned the datarate back to 5.0 like it was instead of the 10.0 I had it on and now it works fine.


EDIT:

BAH. Now, after all that time trying to install the addon, every time I log onto my server I go linkdead. I haven't changed anything except what was needed to install the addon. :(
