Default Problem connecting to own server

I just installed my own server, and am having a problem.

I used Akka's installation program, and changed the IP addresses in login.ini and eqemu_config.xml to the actual IP of the machine it is on (a fresh Windows 8.1 x64 machine).

I installed the client on a separate machine (SoF DVDs) and followed the client setup.

When I connected to my server, it autocreated my account, but after server selection, the client screen goes black for about 2 minutes, after which I am returned to the login screen.

The last line of the login server is:

[login server] session ready indicated logged in from world(unsupported feature), disconnecting.

I tried changing my eqhost.txt to point to one of the establish emulator servers, and it logged me into character selection just fine, so I think the problem is the server.

The one forum post I could find about the error talked about an error in the data causing it, but it was from years ago, and I just got the Akka install.

Can anyone help me? I can provide any config or logs if you let me know what is needed.

Thank you in advance.

Did you set eqhost to 127.0.0.1? 5998 or 5999? What client are you using? is your eqemuconfig dishing out that port (5998,5999)? Did you try to connect to a server on the list called akka... to see if it works on another bare bones server installation?

I set the eqhost to 192.168.1.XXX:5998, since I am using a separate machine and the Secrets of Faydwer DVD client. Firewalls on the machine are off.

The client connects to the login server, as indicated by the text on that machine.

I did connect to another Akka server on the list.

Thanks

Does SoF use 5998 or 5999? I don't recall it should say in the instructions. I would also try using a titanium client and seeing what happens. Also make sure your config and ini file giving out 5998.

It should use 5998, and since it is connecting I don't think that is the issue. 5998 is what all the configs are set to, both server and client.

I actually own SoF, so that's what I need to use.

Any other errors on the server windows or just the login server window? Have you tried changing the starting zone in the database? Another thing I'm thinking is maybe SoF support was dropped recently, I doubt it but it's worth asking if any dev is reading. Also have you cheked and made sure your IP didn't change? Any time you log out or loose connection the IP can change. Probably not that since you are getting communication but thought I'd throw that out there.

Just the error in the login server window, although world.exe acknowledges the account creation.

IP address is stable.

Just stumped. Thanks for the ideas.

Welcome. So when I was browsing through the rule_values in the database I noticed a variable that said something like SoFstartingzone so mabye that setting was changed on the database you are using? Another option is list your server on the list here (login.eqemulator.net I believe) and have other people try to get in so you can tell if it is a client problem.
