If you're using NT/2K/XP you can try this:

1)go to a command prompt.
2)cd to your EQ directory.
3)type 'eqgame.exe patchme' (do not leave off the .exe)

As scary as that message looks, all it means is that you don't have a connect to the server. It is sort of like video wires and splitters, you think you have everything hooked up right, but something is plugged into the wrong place.

well, I checked and it looks like there never was a clear response about what caused the message and what a person needs to do about the problem -- except that it has nothing to do with patching.

The best I could find was the mumbo jumbo old wives tale about
"eqgame patchme" vs "eqgame.exe patchme".

Were you trying to use "eqgame"?
