Default eqgfx_dx8.dll...'Tis infamous

Ok, weird problem: I play EQ (any version, emulator or regular) on the lowest possible screen size setting. If I make an attempt to play at 800x600 or higher, when I click to go to the loading screen I get "An error has occured in 'Eqgfx_dx8.dll'"...this has always happened. Recently, however, it started giving me that error when I try to play on the lowest possible setting! Only occasionally, sometimes it works just fine, sometimes I get the error. I didn't do something new or anything different. In fact, I've been playing on the regular servers instead recently, not the emulator. I tried changing around my computer's settings to 16 bit and 32 bit, and back again, I've restarted my computer many times (out of habit...when something goes wrong, REBOOT!), and deleted and redownloaded my Eqgfx_dx8.dll file.

I doubt anyone else has this problem, being that I have come to the conclusion that I am the only person on Earth with a Savage IX video card. (and I'm guessing that itself is my problem...besides, laptops and EverQuest don't mix very well)
But help is always much appreciated! Thank you very much.

What OS are you using? (Windows I know but what version?) Have you tried getting the latest version of directx?
And lastly have you tried getting updated drivers fot your card? Last I heard they were still making savage drivers.
I know these are all obvious questions but you wouldn't believe how often (like 99% of the time) it's the obvious things at work.
Now that I read your post a bit more closely would your laptop happen to be an IBM? I may have a solution for you if it is.

Default More info

Well, I have a HP Pavillion N5190 running Windows ME. I got the latest version of DirectX and installed it. If there are new drivers for my card, they're not on the Savage main website. {Or maybe I'm just too technologically impaired to find them} Possibly I can find them elsewhere?

Thanks for your post, I think that it comes down to the fact that I simply need a new computer.

let me do a little checking we had a VERY similar problem w/ some IBM laptops the had Savage IV cards, but I can't remember exactly how we solved it...........
I did go ahead and find some savage 4 drivers for ME from august 2000. Let me know if those might help and I'll work out how to get them to ya.

Default Hey, thanks a lot!

Yeah, I believe that updated Savage drivers would help immensely. I apologize for the delay of response, I haven't been home the past few days. But yes, I think that that would be a very good first step. Thanks a bunch!
