Default Once and for all......

Ok I have been here a few months and I don't talk very much except to give the usual newbie props to the devs. I try and do search when I can but sometimes you just can't find what you are looking for. OK here is my question.....
EQlive works pretty well but there are continual bugs. Sony patches and fixes these bugs a bit at a time. The devs do their magic and then we the EQemu community get to play until the next EQlive patch comes up. What the EQemu community is doing is legal even though we patch EQlive each time they patch. I guess my question is this : Is there a reason, once we packet collect all the items, all the op-codes, yadda yadda yadda, that we can't just patch to eqlive one last time and then just work from there? Wouldnt that be just as legal. We would be working with the latest version of EQ and if there werent any serious bugs we could jsut play that forever and ever. It would be the devs call and they could say OK this Sony patch fixed a whole lotta stuff and we think it is good enough for EQemu to play this verion of eq and never worry again.

I feel like the kid who gets real excited about thinking he has just found the cure for cancer after 5 weeks in his Bio I class at community college and then realizes the next week the virus can mutate.

Good Day

If that were to happen then for new players and people that don't make a backup of the eq directory for eqemu use, we would have to resort to warez, which is illegal and not good for the community.

Couldnt we have just one server and everyone could just patch to our version. I don't see how it's any different than patching from eqlive and then fixing it each time. It seems to me its the same thing.

When you patch to live all you change is the EQHost file, no distro of warz there...if we freeze versions then after SOE patches once we would need to give out files that are copywrited by SOE = warz, in order for people to play on the servers.

hence people need to use some forsight with release dates, to make them coincide with SOE expansion release dates.
then, warez is a moot point. IE if you have a PoP release...that is basiclly a snapshot of the code for the pop expansion release..there would be no need to patch, since people could do a fresh install..up to pop...and have everything they need.

same with the other new expansion...ley, ldon, etc.

this way, you completly sidestep the entire "warez" paranoia about soe released files, and have snapshots people can use with minimal effort.

and as to doing a fresh install code, how would all the fixxes and extras SOE has put in be done?
