Default *POSSIBLE* solution to LAN woes

As you read this, bear in mind that I don't know that this will solve everyone's problems (or anyone's, for that matter), but it might help.

I just encountered the 1017 error myself for the first time while trying to connect multiple clients to a LAN-hosted server, but I think I know what caused it and have already remedied it (my LAN server is once again functioning just fine).

Here's what happened. I just aquired the newest version of Ariak's database (thanks to those who pointed me in the right place to get it). I switched to it (from an older version of Ariak's database) and suddenly I was getting 1017's. I started up EQEmu Admin Tool v2.4 and noticed something different immediately. The "eqemu" account was NOT in the database, as it had been in the version of Ariak's database that I had prior to the problem. I added the "eqemu" account by hand with Admin Tool (made the id 1, name eqemu, password eqemu, status 200, and left the last entry blank (what is that last entry, by the way? Anyone care to enlighten me?)). I then rebooted (which unfortunately may have been what fixed my problem, but I'm hoping not, for the sake of others out there), started up minilogin.exe, world.exe, and Boot5zones.Win9x.bat, then logged both of my PC's into the server. No more problems.

Moral of the story: make sure the "eqemu" account is in your database prior to attempting to log into your LAN server. And as a reference to my other settings (db.ini, eqhost.txt, etc.), I point you to http://eqemu.sourceforge.net/forums/...;threadid=1044

I hope this helps some people

FYI, as I understand it the last entry is for the full blown logonserver. Remember that the full LS holds global accounts usable on any server listed on it. When handing off someone loging onto your server, it adds the aparopriate account, with a referance to the account ID on the LS.

Aha! Thanks for clearing that up. That's one less question in the universe left for me to solve .

Default Hmm

???

I have to remove my character, corpses, and my account from the DB for your own protection.

I left eqemu / eqemu in the DB, but I was told by the mods to remove it.

Please post more details.

I don't even know if it is an issue, and may only be an issue with LAN-based connections. I don't know what additional details you'd need. It was just my observation that I was having trouble connecting multiple pc's over my LAN to a locally hosted server until I added eqemu/eqemu in by hand. There's nothing really wrong with the database. It just appears that the user *may* need to add eqemu/eqemu in before they'll be able to connect via LAN.

mini login requires the eqemu account to be in the db. if you dont use minilogin, not having it shouldn't effect you. if you do use minilogin, and dont have the eqemu/eqemu in the database, you will have trouble.

Ariak, I think the point from the dev's was that leaving the account in the DB with admin rights is a big security hole. It is much better to just leave it out, and make everyone put in the accounts they want.
