Ok, basically setting your datarate is an art and not an exact science and depends on a ton of factors. Also setting your datarate.txt really isn't that helpful because a lot of times you need to change it while playing for it to work better. Basically a low datarate will wait longer from the time you stop recieving messages from the server before you LD. So this is good as it prevents LDs, but the server also will never send you more data per second than your datarate. So if you are swinging really fast or there are a few people around the packets will lag beind and your ping will go through the rooof. There needs to be a good balance which is pretty hard to find and varies from server to server and also varies by when you are on and how many other people are on and especially how many people are in the zone with you. Like I knew people on Scorp2k that swore that .1 datarate was the best and you never LD, which was true, but they always had a 5000 ping so they couldn't really react to anything, they jsut start auto attack and wait. We've found through testing on Scorp2k that at least with the old server, people needed to ahve a low datarate or the server's resources would get tied up too much with one person and LD everyone. But on a faster conenction or more populated server a higher one is needed because you'll probably be aorund 5-6 people at once sometimes and that greatly increases the number of packets. So basically all I really have to say is that unless you have access to the #datarate command or want to experiment a lot with datarate.txt, set it to what the server op tells you. Chances are they have tested it alot and know what works best on their server most of the time.
