You can get the latest version of the source from
http://eqemulator.net/download.net I am not sure on the exact difference in this from CVS but believe that what you find on the download page is a current as you are going to find them based on this post from FNW

It will build a new release every night when changes have been made. This should remove the compiling obstacle that so many people face with eqemu. As stated on the release page, these are not tested releases.
