Are you sure it is a computer lock up and not an application hang? Does the computer appear to lock up at any other times or just when you attempt to connect to a server to play Everquest?
If it only occurs when you are attempting to enter Everquest it could be that you are not able to connect to that server for some reason and the timeout that takes place is taking its sweet time kicking you out. Usually those timeouts will not take more than 2-3 minutes tops but under some circumstances it can take much longer. Those prolonged timeout periods usually occur on older machines and older operating systems.
