Thanks for the info Vales, Have been trying some of the options on one of thi links today still no luck. He has already got a ethernet cable I know about the usb problem with his modem. Going to try another modem to see if that works. Thanks for all your help.

No problem. I know how frustrating it could be especially since he's so close to logging in. Hope you get it sorted.

Got the problem sorted it was the modem. Found a good little program to help get around the problems, Its call ARSE if anyone else is interested.
