Im having this exact problem. I have made sure to read the wiki 20 times, i have edited my eqhost file to be exactly like it should be. My shortcut is perfect with the patchme in it. I have a fresh titanium pack, unpatched. Whenever i double click the shortcut to enter the game, it goes black, then goes back to the desktop and gives me the "eqgame.exe needs to close, we are sorry for the inconvenience."

I've tried adding a friends EQclient.ini info (he can get on fine) in place of mine, that didnt help. I tried editing the refresh rate from 0 to 60, that didnt work. i've searched all over this board, and this is the only post i can find with people haveing the same problem... :(

Same problem, eqgame.exe closes but with no error window. It does this under the following situations.

- Computer 1 had EQ installed from way back when I stopped playing. I had up to the Gates of Discord expansion installed. I patched to live then tried playing on an EQEmu server which resulted in the eqgame.exe closing down. It closed at a variety of points anywhere from submitting my username and password to sitting and looking over the server list. When I saw titanium was required I figured that was the problem.

- I uninstalled EQ from my system and got EQ Ti. Installed EQ Ti on computer 1 and on another system that never had EQ installed, computer 2. I was very careful not to start up EQ and allow it to begin patching. Both computers experience the same problem. However it is still random so if I fail to get into a server the first time I can keep trying and eventually I make it in to play.

Following Soulshots suggestion I looked in my eqclient.ini file and changed FullscreenRefreshRate from 0 to 60. I found it in the section named [VideoMode]. Though it seems to happen in windowed and full screen mode I'm crossing my fingers I'll report back on the results.

Dunno if this is the problem the above 2 or 3 posters are having, but I found on my machine I needed to install the most recent DirectX from Microsoft otherwise my client crashed out as well. try http://www.microsoft.com/directx, click on the link to get the latest, and see how you get on.

Whenever I start having issues with a gfx intensive application (aka games) I always start with verifying I have the most up to date version of directX and video card drivers. That makes things work 90% in my experience.

Stating the obvious here, but a simple Add/Remove Programs of Everquest Client does not remove every file. Anything digitally downloaded is left behind, as are logs and such. To be safe, ARP your EQ Client, go to C:\Program Files\Sony, and nuke the whole dir completely (save your logs and Screenies!! )

Then reinstall Titanium. I have always had good results this way. And current DirectX as well (which I think is the solution to the current problems).
