i had the same error - my pc was set to 1650 ... i turned it down to 1040 setting and it loaded.

Problem now is, is that still isnt how I want it. I have a dual monitor set up and want to play eq on my widescreen and still be able to go to my other monitor to browse the web etc without eq shrinking and when its in fullscreen i have to window out and then when I go back to eq I have to make it fullscreen again.

EQ in window mode only allows me to make the resolution 1152 for some reason.

any ideas?

Ok I got it working. So after I did what I posted above. I exited EQ and reset my resolution for both monitors to 1650 then I launched EQ again and the window mode had the 1650 option. Set it - good to go now.
