Earlier this year when I set up my first EQEMU server I used PrivateLogin instead of minilogon because the server was for several of my family members to connect to from their homes so I couldn't authenticate using IP addresses. I am now updating the hardware and software for our EQ server and thought I would use the EQEmuLoginServer, but I am having the exact problem you are. Looks like I will also be going back to PrivateLogin since I really never had a problem getting that to work.

I'm having this same issue as well.. I had a full server setup using Minilogin (about 1.5 years old install) and I decided it was time to backup my old install and try this thing from scratch... The first thing I ran into was that 922 appeared to have an issue with eqemuloginserver even being able to connect to my server (bad username/password error).. the next version update fixed that, but now I have this 1017 error.

Can someone tell me: Is eqemuloginserver the preferred supported login method nowadays? Or is this all buggy alpha code? I've heard stories that minilogin isn't really supported anymore. I'll try this "Private Server" login that was mentioned.
Does eqemuloginserver work at all?

Initial issue resolved.
Solution was to use Private Login, although I bet with enough effort I could have got 'Public Login to work'. Another issue now, will start a new post.
