Default Wipe Server - Concept

I love the classic game and progression; I remember in Live that I would jump to every new server and start a new toon and play for the excitement of trying to be the 1st to do "x", the enjoyment of starting a new economy and so on and so on.

Well, I don't imagine that there will be new classic servers like P99 popping up time and time again so I conceived this idea for a wipe server which would make it possible to have to start over again.

Concept goes like this: (really really really rough draft btw)

P99 inspired ruleset:
- no boxing
- classic experience modifiers and death penalties
- no buff bots
etc ...

Release kunark between 9mos and 1year from server open. 6-9 mos after that release custom expansion.

Embracing the classic EQ mythos and the struggle of good/evil the basic idea is this:

Awaken the sleeper (not necissarily sleepers tomb) and the server wipes - all toons are deleted.

But to make it interesting - we create a good / evil story line and allow the players to ultimatley control weather or not this terrible fate is unleashed. To acomplish this I visualize the end boss's tomb protected by a series of 3 barriers - to drop these barriers would require very involved quests (heart of cazic thule, left nut of Trakkanon etc etc...) and once all the barriers are down then evil guild can go in and if they can take out the last boss - server wipes.

Counter this! - we give an alternate quest line that would allow players to restore barriers and keep the end boss in his tomb far from the arms of prying evil guild guys.

The goal of the server is to create a good guild alliance vs. an evil guild alliance and give the players something to do once they've capped out.

Would something like this make for a viable server?

I don't know about the idea of a wipe but EQ-Heroes will have allot of the content you discribe once it go's into beta.

Good vs Evil (Heroes vs Shadows) /check
Heroes vs Shadows Questline /check
Progression /check altough it won't be classic EQ like but more a struggle between the 2 factions that Raid Targets over control of zones and this in turn can be overthrown

Winning an expansion /check altough not at the sleeper with a wipe, EQ-Heroes can be won one expansion at a time
Expansions are unlocked per faction, lets say The Heroes wan't to unlock Kunark and The Shadows want to unlock Velious first, Heroes cant enter Velious and Shadows cant go to Kunark until they (unlock) find it.

anyways we still got allot to do, but the server will always be open and not be wiped on Beta were the progression will start.

I'm sure your server would be fun - but it's not what I had in mind.
