It uses the forum info. I have heard of this problem a lot for new users. I havent personaly looked into it. Ive heard everything from its server side to check your eqhost file. If your EQhost.txt file is up to date then I dont know what to tell you.

However if you are a new to this you may be somewhat disapointed. The new version 0.5.0 is the only available to you and at the moment those servers are in testing. I dont think that 0.5.0 has been released yet. I operate a 0.4.4 server which offers full playablilty, but to play you need critical files from 12/02. If you have a up to date patched version of EQ there is no longer a way for you to "go back".

As long as everything goes smoothly here 0.5.0 should be playable very soon.
