While I cannot understand.. well most of this thread.. I'll do my best.
You should not have any problems using a spells_us.txt, as the server only uses it for the data and all display information(the parts in French) would be in the spells_fr (on the client side).
However, I cannot offer much advice on any other problems that you might face. We do not have any clear packetlogs from any of the other servers.. and we have not even been able to get a hold of spells_fr.txt and the eqstr_fr.txt for testing. One problem that can certainly arise is that your client version may not be current with what we are working with.
As for any message made BY the server, that are not contained in eqstr_fr.txt, they will be in English. If someone that can decently read the code, and is willing to translate messages I'm sure it could be included by either a diff or a preprocessor define.
