I wasn't there when it stopped (I was at work), but on my system which has a fast processor (AMD XP 3000), lotsa RAM (1GB), and fast a Hard Drive (a pair of 10,000RPM ATA100 8MB cache drives in RAID 0), and it took me more than 14 hours. My guess is somewhere around 16 hours or so. And yes, it continues beeping ALL THROUGH THE NIGHT!!! All for only about 5k new records. . .
Also, Since I have access to web space, I'm gonna go ahead and upload my MySQL DB dump and post a link to it when it's done.
I'm updating my DB with the "npc_types_update.sql" file right now. I'll have the dump out as soon as it's done!
