And by making a new forum for each version, I had forgot to mention, after a new version is put up, you lock the old one and make it invisible so nobody can view / access it.

We still have people using 4.4 and ealier, and every other version up till now. and thay are able to find and fix issues by searching the forums and bringing up the threads from way back then.
You and everyone else has access to everything needed to fix this community how you feel it should be. Dont like the lack of comments in the code? add some, dont like the wikki? change it, want the forums set up a diferent way? I can do most changes PM me, bigger things need to be done by Rogean PM him.
People coming up saying they dont like something give them access to everything isnt going to happen. It would be nice if you could trust everyone with admin power, but the fact is most people would abuse it.

we dont, but in a lot of ways those ealier versions were more stable then the later ones, and minilogin works like a charm on them too.

Damn people, it really is not that hard. I setup a server without once posting how to do it. All of the information is present in the forums/wiki. These people wrote the code for you and provided databases, what else do you want them to do??? Hold your hand while you piss.. Grow the fuck up.. If you want to work with the code, then learn how to program first. If you can program look through the damned code. It is all right there.

The outdated stuff is still usefull...As soon as I began seeing the whole picture I could see that the outdated stuff still applies and that the old versionsmand the new are essentially the same with the same "parts" involved. Just a few numbers have changed with time.
So I for one want the outdated stuff to stay.

I do recall 4.x and 5.x being easier to setup, but again, they were not as advanced.

Easier to setup has nothing to do with stability I assure you. I think I would know since I was here before it was called EQEMu and before it was FreeQuest and when it was AGXEMu.

How do you remember FreeQuest when it did not exist beyond January of 2002?

I have used it since then as in, I have had server files, and I had ran a server few years back, I had played on a freequest server back then, when I say using, I mean actually using the server software.

I've been silent on this thread for now but I feel I should just add my two cents.
If it was our intention to delete ancient posts, the archives wouldn't exist, it would simply be deleted. However, you can trace back to the first non-automated forum post on this database. http://eqemulator.net/forums/showthread.php?t=2
As you can see, our intention is not to remove that.
Because this is a constantly-changing project, it is the nature of the beast that information will get outdated. But even if something is, there will most likely still be resources that could help solve a problem you may be having that was written for an older version of EQEMu but that can be adapted to a newer version.
For documentation purposes, EQEMu is not and will never be a step-by-step hold-my-hand setup, if such is required you probably shouldn't be running EQEMu. That said, its really not all that difficult to set up EQEMu. Most problems that arise with installation come from ignorance of the documentation. And [b]that[b], my friends, is where the snobby attitude comes from.

C++ is wonderful.
