Default GM Events (In general)

(Off topic, I miss my tab key... :( )

I have noticed on many servers GM events do not happen often... This is true for EQ Live as well, but that is to be expected on EQLive...

In any case, the few GM Events I have seen have been on the lines of this, "hey, guyz, if you can find me and kill me i will give you level 65..."

After tracking down said GM you encounter a dragon who makes the Sleeper look easy, and you are a measly level 5 (or even a level 64, who wants their last level... It makes no difference)

So you summon the 20 greatest breastplates of the game, and force equip the breastplates to your slots... Then you summon a Big Soul Devourer and walk into battle... Die... Walk into battle again... And this is it, several people marching to their deaths all for the chance to max their levels...

My point is, it lacks creativity... True, with the game structure you are not capable of doing much, as Everquest is a combat oriented game... But what about a trade skill event? The GM calls all participents into an area... An area that is sceluded, that also has all merchants selling all relevent supplies and crafting ground spawns (forges, looms, etc.) The GM then resets their level in a specific tradeskill (of course they would return to that level after wards) Then they recieve 1000 platinum, and are instructed to try to be the person to craft the nicest item, at the end of a time limit...

Or maybe a good old fashioned race... Depop the involved zones (and turn off #zone) And give the winner a respectable prize that -isn't- necessarily l33t... (if your server is legit... if not, instead of giving them level 65, why not give them a level 200 in smithing or something, that will allow them to craft nice things for themselves!)

I wasn't speaking to all server GM's, as I have not been to more than half of the servers... Just making a general (and therefore dangerous) observation...

Most people dont realize how time consuming it is to run a server. So we end up with a lot of servers that get part way done then the person brings there server down for good cause they dont have time or for a lot of other reasons.

There is only 3-4 server who have been around for most of the time i have been here, so your dangerous observation Is very correct.

Hands down GM Events is the funnest quick thing you can do on EQ.

Raids are even more fun, but I sure don't have the time for those :p

Well while i may not be directly familiar with how much work it takes to run a server I would love to see more people doing them.

I was rescently on a Non legit server where everyone was an Apprentice guide, about 10 were on and needless to say there was much going on other than the systematic rapge of each and every notable pop in the game.

so the GM took a bit of time to Flood some of the zones with Lvl 65 versions of Lord Nagafen each with 2 level 60 skeleton guards. The naggys hit for around 10k a swing and i would guess had around 100k hp ... needless to say it was fun ... just an idea for those running non - legit servers.

=P
