Default Visual Studio

I was considering buying visual studio.net 2003, but im not sure which version i need to compile, i found this list:Visual Studio
but its kinda confusing, i was thinking about acedemic, because it seems the most basic, and the cheapest, but im not sure if cheaping out is gonna get me what i need to compile :P Any help would be greatly appreciated

Theoretically you should be able to compile with the free beta compiler, if you know how to configure the makefile.

They're free for now, but their FAQ says they plan to sell each product for $49
