Default Difficulties with eqgame.exe

"eqgame.exe has encountered a problem and needs to close."

I started on a widescreen with 1900x1200 and got this message and was unable to even reach the server selection screen. But after some searching on the forums, I decreased my screen resolution to 1280x1024 and at that point could now access the server selection screen.

When I choose a server the EQ theme starts playing, but now the exact same "eqgame.exe has encountered a problem and needs to close" message shows, and I am unable to log into a server.

Odd issue. Any ideas?

Lemme guess, you have a dual or quad core CPU?

Try this:

Dual Core CPU Fix:
Dual (or Quad) Cores cause crashes, but has a simple fix.
1. Start EQEmu
2. Before logging into the login server, ATL+TAB out of the program and hit CTRL+ALT+DEL
3. Select the 'Processes' Tab
4. Find the eqgame.exe process and right click it
5. Select 'Set Affinity' and then chose CPU 0
6. Return to EQ and run like normal

Alternatively, if you are running an AMD processor, you can fix it by just installing the AMD Optimizer.

Oh, and I did lower my in game screen resolution to a ridiculously low 800x600 until I can get a fix. Changed monitors out running desktop at 1280x1024 for the meantime. thanks

I have similar issues, if I don't go back to windowed mode before close it crashes... My reso is 1440x900. I can play just fine changing the reso and going into fullscreen during the game but the eqgame dies if it tries to go fullscreen for the login... Just a nice feature of using an old client.

You can also try running in Compatibility mode.

Running in Compatibility Mode to fix Windows Vista and/or Dual/Quad Core CPU Issues:

1. Right click on the Everquest shortcut you created during the eqemu setup process. The wiki page can be found here for information to get setup:
http://www.eqemulator.net/wiki/wikka...akka=PlayGuide
2. Select "Properties".
3. Click the "Compatibility" Tab.
4. Check the box for "Run this program in compatibility mode for:"
5. First try selecting Windows XP from the drop down menu there.
6. If Windows XP compatibility mode does not resolve the problem, try all of the other options 1 by one until one of them fixes it.

This fix does not work on all systems, but it has definitely helped to resolve issues for many people running Windows Vista and/or Dual/Quad core CPUs.
