New to EQEmu
Hello!
I'm an EQ1 Veteran, having played in 1999 three months after the live release until sometime after the release of the Kunark expansion, and again in 2004. I played during the classical era - Jboots in Najena and Rubicite Armor before (perhaps) the two biggest nerfs in gaming history, staring at a spell book, camp checks and waiting lists, continental foot journeys and spending countless hours in the East Commonlands Tunnel immersed in my favorite aspect of the game, commerce. When I came back in 2004 I was barely able to recognize the game anymore. I played a Necromancer until level 55 until I quit the game again.
But, lately, I've been immersed in nostalgia for my old EQ days. I've played DAoC and WoW - and while WoW certainly packs alot of utility, balance and graphical beauty, nothing really comes close to the feeling of adventure I had with EverQuest. I've considered playing again on the SOE live servers after reading about progression servers, but apparently are about to become standardized. So, I'm thinking of making my new home on an emulation server.
I've never really been technically savvy with computers though, and I'm utterly lost for words on how EQEmus work, how to install them, how to play on a server, etc. I have (I think) a few Emulators "installed", but they don't work (keep getting errors that I don't understand) - and one server that I downloaded the client from their site with doesn't have any information on how to set up an account. I really don't know how any of this works, it certainly seems more complicated than downloading a free MMORPG, clicking a program to install it and signing up an account. A basic, newbie walkthrough for this would be more than appreciated.
I hope to settle on a server soon, begin leveling a character (ideally, to only 50 heh) and make a new wave of gaming friends.
Peace!
