Anyone remember EQ language lessons?

I've been working on adding the ability to learn languages from other characters to my server code. I think I've mostly got it, but I've run into a couple of things that I just don't remember all that well (it's been many years since I played Live), and I was wondering if anyone knows the following:

1. Could you gain language skill from "say" messages, or was it only group chat? (I know tells didn't work)

2. About how quickly did the skill improve? (Once every 100 messages? 500? 1000?) And did it take more messages at higher skill levels?

Had to be group to gain skill ups. You could make a language appear on your list from Say however.

Quickly, then slowly for the last few....took maybe 2000 total lines roughly for 100 skill ups? I had a 5 line macro I spammed.

Don't forget, the cap was 100.
