Default EQClassic vs Project 1999

What's the difference between these two? I really hope we can all come together and play on one classic EQ server.

Short answer: One exists and the other one doesn't.

Long answer: EQClassic is a project using a client from the 2001 Trilogy Box Set, while Project 1999 is using the 2004 Titanium box set.

The reason why EQClassic is taking so much more time than Project 1999 is simply because there is a lot known about the 2004 Titanium client versus the 2001 Trilogy Client. While a lot of the structures and datatypes were known, a lot were incorrect and the EQEmu Source that worked with 2001 EQ clients did not have functions assigned to them to make them a playable game play experience. That is why EQClassic is taking so long, not because we're selfish, greedy, or any other things as such.

Project 1999 is a team mainly comprised of database developers. As such, they were able to get a finished product out and ready because a majority of the work was already done for them by the EQEmulator team. I would consider making the game work 1/2 of the work, and the database would be the other half. (though the database really can be adapted to many formats, if you are skilled enough.) Due to their database skills, they often find themselves stuck when it comes to information involving a C++/C source problem, or a client limitation, because they are using the stock EQEmulator Source and a Titanium client. While you can get as close as you can to Classic EQ using a titanium client, that is simply not possible to be 100%. And with that being said, you can't do that with the EQC Client either. It is mainly the content that counts here, and Project 1999 knows that.

Since they obtained Rogean and their other C++/C source coder, most of those problems are eliminated, but they do not have the EQ 2001 Trilogy Client, which makes EQClassic different than Project 1999.

That is the long answer for you.

Also, most of the work done on Project 1999 that can be contributed to the EQEMu source probably is going to happen, since they are affiliated with EQEmulator and EQClassic is not. EQClassic is also releasing precompiled binaries and is closed source whereas Project 1999 is hosting a completed server.
