Bots and Mercs

I have been following the changes in the SVN concerning updates and been reading tons of stuff about MERCs. I am wondering if MERCs are operational or still in development? Assuming they are operational and one wanted to add them is it as simple as a world recompile with latest rev and a few sql scripts to run to update database?

I would guess that until the mercs branch is merged back into the trunk it's not ready for prime time. You could always build the branch and play with it though to see.
