Default Client trouble

Ive gotten through getting everything set up for a private server, I can log in and select a server, and then the screen goes black and nothing happens. I also get a message saying client has been disconnected. After reading up on the issue I think its because I am trying to use the current Steam F2P client which I guess isnt compatible with EQEmu. So I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions for a way around this? Titanium is almost 200$ on amazon and I have even looked at pirating but since everything I have read says it needs to be Titanium discs or RoF from Steam, I havent taken it much farther than that. I have really been itching to give this a go for a while now and have finally gotten the chance so if anyone can provide some insight, I would really appreciate it.

That's absolutely correct. You need one of the supported clients. The one from Steam is the Live client, which is no good.

You can check the forums of some of the servers for more information but you won't be pointed to any free or illegal way of obtaining a client on these forums.
