EQEmpires is EverQuest with each class overhauled from the ground up. It uses the RoF2 client and will go through the game's original progression but with a significant overhaul.
There are abilities and spells from later in Live's lifecycle and totally custom one's added as well. The server will allow boxing but will be designed from the ground up to facilitate real grouping.
It uses a Firiona Vie style ruleset, (The database we're using is based off of the FV Project by TurmoilToad). It has Smart Diablo Loot (~20,000 items dropping from level 1-51) and increased bag capacity. A custom Marketplace where you can sell/buy/trade items from any location in Norrath. And loosened clicky types so you may click 90% of the items that are dropping regardless of class.
Every major city has been overhauled and given a complete questline that culminates in your character becoming Allied with the factions and obtaining an item that allows you to teleport to that city.
EQEmpires features a robust 'Heroic Dungeon' and 'Challenge Mode' system where players can square off against mobs that scale to their level and difficulty steadily increases as you increase your "Zone Level". There are weekly and daily quests associated with this.
The information above is just the tip of the iceberg for changes that have been made. Development is still ongoing and we hope to release no later than 2 months from today.

Easter Eggs & Nods to other popular servers in lore, quests, random mob encampments. This specific one is a nod to Shards of Dalaya. I spent a lot of time here as a newbie on that server and added a tiny small custom area. These NPCs award Qeynos Guard/Merchant faction and are an alternative way of grinding faction for this major custom questline.
