server set up but 1017 for users

the server shows up on the eqemu list now when I go to log in with a client but if I go to log into the server I get a 1017 error ... what am I doing wrong?

was the result of me being behind a NAT

here is the solution posted by someone else who helped me out greeatly with his post.
