Question on skills
Hello, I'm kinda new to this, and I don't want to start a topic that doesn't belong in this thread, and forgive me if I do, but I couldn't find a more suitable one anywhere else on the forum.
Now, I don't exactly have a technical question, but I guess it's important nontheless.
I just want to know how the skill system works. You see, I play a rogue, yet I do not posses the skill "Hide". I mean; is that a skill that'll be added later as I progress in levels, or did I make some kind of mistake somewhere(I can't imagine having missed something)?
Thanks!

Rogues (except for halfling rogues) don't get that skill right away. I think they get it at 3rd or 4th level. When you reach that level, you must put at least one training point into it (similar to meditate, etc..) It will then function correctly, at least on my server it does.

Ok. But I'm almost level 8 now, and still no sign of the skill :S
Ah well, maybe it'll come soon... I hope... It feels rather naked, I must confess: kind of like a warrior without any weapon skills or armor proficiencies whatsoever.
brrr.
Your server? what server is that?

Anyway: this is so frustrating. My character's up to level 8, almost 9, and *still* I can't train my sneak skill, let alone *find* hide. I've asked around a bit in game, and no one seems to know what I'm talking about... Could it be a bug or something??
Help needed. Badly.

What have you done to try to train the skill? If the guildmasters aren't working on your server, and you can't fix it, use #setskill. Set it to 1, and then practice it.
I think hide and sneak may be bugged to the extent that they don't improve. My rogue has not improved 1 point in sneak nor hide despite attempting it at least 20 times.
I've gotten sneak to work >once< and only half-assed. My character slowed down, like a sneaking char does, but wasn't invis (understandable, considering my skill level and the level of nearby mobs).
Hide, OTOH, does work, very well I might add. Since I haven't gotten around to making guildmasters work on my server yet, I used #setskill to set it to 1.

I did try to use setskill. but it didn't work, and I got the message that "my authorisation wasn't high enough to use that command". That did sound kind of logical, since elsewise we'd all be running around with every skill set to maximum.
But I don't know; maybe it depends on the server on which you play. I play on the scorpius 2k server, by the way.

Either set your account to GM status in the db via command line or a front-end, or edit the level required to use #setskill in the addon.ini file.
If you're playing on someone else's server, you won't have the authority to do any of this, so you'll have to take it up with the server admin.

is the GM Trainers a part of the quest system, or is it hardcoded with the GM npctype?
