Default Error 1017

I set up my server properly using 0.5.6, but get a 1017 error when attempting to login. I don't think it's a problem with my client version, as I can login to the Winter's Roar server just fine. Any ideas, anybody?

Windows XP firewall is turned off, and I have forwarded port 9000 to my local IP.

Yes, those ports are forwarded as well.

And I realize that WR is 5.3, but if I'm updated to the latest version of EQ and using 5.6 (newer) I find it unlikely that it'd work on 5.3 and not 5.6

This is beginning to frustrate me.

This is the message my server gives me:

64547 New client from ip: 207.193.29.108 port: 1610
[Error] Expecting OP_SendLoginInfo, got 241
Removing client from ip:207.193.29.108 port:1610

Why is this happening?

As SOE patch EQ, each version of the EQEmu server only works with the EQ client patched between specific dates. If your client works with the 5.3 server, it will not work with version 5.6.

That's strange. If I'm running the latest version of the EQ client, shouldn't it work with the latest version of EQEmu?

The latest version of the EQ client is not compatible with any EQEmu server .... if you can play on WR or Scorpius2K etc, you must have downloaded a 'patcher' to downgrade your client to be compatible with that server.

The only patcher I"ve run is the EQ main executable. And yet it still runs with Winter's Roar?

if you patched past the 22nd of last month, you cannot play eqemu at all, on any server.
