one quick note I can add to the suggestions you will find is that windows 2000 service pack 4 is required for the newest ATI drivers to function correctly.

also here is a driver you could try but make sure you know how to return to your old driver

Well, sorry to dissapoint, but I run win98se. So win2k drivers don't help. I tried rolling back the driver to the older version to no avail. I deleted all the files and re-patched to no avail. I'm figuring I'm flat out boned now. If I had the $550 I needed right now, I'd get the 2 vid cards I was looking at and the 2 sticks of 1 gig ram I was looking at. And if I had more money, I'd upgrade to xp as well. If anyone else got an idea of how to make it work?

Well, you could always try running EQ in Cedega/WineX on linux. Can't hurt.

I don't run linux. My wife doesn't understand it, nor do I have the patience to teach her it either. Someone posted that they had a way around it, and if they could post it, it'd be worth a shot.

Windows 98 is horrible for fixing video drivers once you have something bad in the files.... heres the cleanest way to install or re-install video drivers.

add/remove programs

make sure ATI control panel has been uninstalled completely
along with any ati display software listed

1) go to device manager
2) go to properties of your video card
3) update your driver
4) choose STANDARD VGA DRIVER from built in list
5) complete and restart system (you might have to hit cancel if it tries to detect on start up)
6) verify that ATI drivers are no longer listed in device manager

download these drivers

http://www2.ati.com/drivers/wme-7-99...4m-013831c.exe

thats a display driver only and still maintains WHQL certification for windows 98.. anything newer does not.

install display driver and reboot....try EQ
