Server Wiki esque?

Just something I was thinking about, thought I'd shoot out there and see what the response was...

Why not have a server on the idea of teh wikki... have a dedicated non-legit server running where everyone has all the necessary priviledges in order to spawn a zone... then people can come in, spawn zones, fix spawns, adjust things and pop their favorite zones that they know like the back of their hand, and in (theoretically) a very short time we could populate most of the expansions taking the best of all the player's knowledge base to create the correct mobs in the correct areas on teh correct grids etc etc... sure theres alot you can't do from in the game, like loot tables, but that would be a whole lot less work for the people that are trying to do this all themselves... I know several people are trying to populate their server expansions like live, why not harness that?

To give back to the group, the server admin of whoever is willing to put up a dedicated server, can dump mob info and spawn info (prefferably by zone) back into the forum so that people can easily get the updates they want, including the people that spawned them in the first place (so they don't have to do it on the test server as well as their own) could probably do this maybe 1ce a week or so to keep people updated...

Anyways, just something that hit me in the night sorta speak... what do people think?

Thoght of that, but the same can be said for the wikki which nonetheless appears to be working fairly well... I have enough faith in the community here that people will help where they can, and if they don't know enough they'll leave it alone... maybe thats just optimistic however /shrug

Dont take this the wrong way but, how old are you? I only ask because if your over say 20, I want to live where you do... I do know there are a lot of good people in this community, however there quiet and dont say much, its the tards who are visible and it will be the same on the server.

Well, I feel the need to amend my statement for I am not as naive as I appear upon re-reading my statements

point 1) I have faith in the community, not people, Where i live is likely just as irritatingly full of idiots as where you live, which is why I talk on boards instead of going out and finding more people to hang out with :-P

point 2) Let me rephrase my initial point, the people that would be logging into the game to spawn permenant creatures would have to a) know how to log into the emu, and b) know how to spawn creatures, effectively eliminating most of the annoying newbins that crush my faith in humanity on a daily basis... Thus (I was hopeing) people that would be spawning zones would be those that are more mature and intelligent... that is where I was saying I might be a little optimistic however.

Oh, and yes I'm over 20 :-P

I like this idea. The problem is that EQEmu needs a command console in game for it to be viable. Not just text but literal windows and visibility tools to see the under works of the game. Then the Client would need to have a paging ability. For instance the way the database works now while efficient to players would be horrible to a EQEmu Admin.

What you would need to do it divide the database among zones rather as a whole. Meaning that gfaydark would be its own whole database with all the tables that we have now. Then an individual roll back so if some idiot comes in and spawns some super god in a newbie area a single EQEmu command (Not usable by "gm" class players could reset the zone to an earlier point.

Another problem is object spawning. What about spawning my forge. As far as I can tell it has to be done at the database level. Making a new command that will spawn in placeables would be useful to a wiki server.

I understand the problems that the EQEmu staff would face. I run a fun little server with my friends and for the first couple of days all they did was spawn in items and summon uber creatures. But after they grew up they actually deleted there characters and played without uber commands (Besides the occasional goto when lost etc). I think we would defiantly see idiots. But with a little time and caring they would be eradicated.

I think there's something amiss with the Wikki's Index page? Can someone check it please? I thought it would have a list of all the pages. Instead, it looks like some database schema stuff.
