Default Checking Database Conversions

I have an EQEmu server running on a virtual machine where my host PC can speak to the guest OS and I can play EQ on my self contained laptop. If I allow the VM to communicate with the Internet, the World server starts just fine. If the VM does not have Internet, the World gets stuck at "checking database conversions". Is there a way to time this out or avoid it altogether so I don't have to give the VM Internet access?
